Job Description

The Assistant Team Leader of Grocery is responsible for the exceptional execution of customer Service by the entire department. In conjunction with the Grocery Team Leader, they are responsible for holding Team Members accountable to achieve the highest level of Customer satisfaction and leading the team to success. They are responsible for managing department inventory, margin, labor budgets, pricing integrity and merchandising standards. They will ensure Grocery Team Members receive proper training and supervision regarding product knowledge, proper rotation, storage, merchandising standards, building displays and proper opening and closing procedures.

Qualifications

  • Ability to model and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Must have a love of natural, organic and local produce.
  • Ability to lead by example and set clear expectations.
  • Must have vast produce product knowledge.
  • Able to oversee and train all proper rotation techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and E-mail
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including nights,weekends and holidays.
  • Stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break.
  • Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects, climb ladders, lift loads, up to 50 lbs. unassisted, push and pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. unassisted

Responsibilities

  • Model and provide exceptional Customer Service.
  • Daily Department walks for excellence in cleanliness, ordering proficiency, stock levels, merchandising and proper signage.
  • Along with the Team Leader, will train, mentor and coach Team Members to succeed.
  • Effectively resolve Customer issues.
  • Must achieve maintain budgeted margins and comps for each sub department and total department.
  • In the absence of the department manager, Buyer or as assigned, will inventory and order for the department as needed and keep up to date purchase journals.
  • In the absence of the department manager, Buyer or as assigned, must meet all deadlines in terms of invoices, purchase journals & reconciliation, scheduling, perishable inventories, rotation audits and pricing audits.
  • Communicate all Team Member issues to Grocery Team Leader and Store Leadership.
  • Follow and comply with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and adhere to all safe work practices
  • Effectively communicate with Customers, Team Members and Store Leadership.
  • Ensure Team Member compliance of all relevant Village Market policies and standards.
  • Quality control and damage control, making sure damaged products are handled in a proper fashion and credits are received in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with sampling program, keeping sample areas full, clean and appealing.
  • Communication with other department leaders to coordinate promotions, displays, exc.
